5 Things That You Can Do To Make Moving Easy

Moving into a new house is a cumbersome process. That is because all of your belongings have to be taken to the new home. Most people learn to organize themselves the hard way. This is after they realize that some of their stuff was left in the old home. Worst still, there are others who forget to change their address and insurance cover. This is because some things should be done before moving out. Moving out can be very easy if you take time to organize yourself. Below is a checklist that can guide you when settling into a new house.

  1. Clean the House

Before you step into the new home, you should wash it with soapy water. This will help in killing any bacteria that might be present in the house. You can actually hire a professional cleaning company to do the job for you because they have advanced cleaning equipment. It’s difficult to clean the house when your stuff has already been arranged inside. This is due to the fact that you can’t carry heavy items such as fridge and furniture by yourself. The other problem is that the dust that’s in the house will make your clothes and furniture dirty.

  1. Change Your Mail Address

It’s important you change your current address. If you leave your current address intact, you will not be getting any letters for your subscriptions. There are companies that specialize in change of address services. You, therefore, don’t have to go to the post office to get a new address. All you have to do is get in touch with companies that send you letters every month and give them your new address so they can continue updating you.

  1. Inform utility Companies about Your New Home

Before you move out of the old home, you should communicate with the water, internet and electricity companies. This will let them know that a new homeowner is coming in so they can stop sending the monthly bills to you. On the other hand, you should make sure that the utility bills of the new home have been settled by the previous owner so you can start from zero. Besides that, you should confirm that the services are still available before settling in. If water or electricity is still disconnected from the mains, you should have the issue sorted in advance.

  1. Change Your Home Insurance

You can get into trouble by not changing your home insurance. If you don’t cancel the current insurance, the insurance company will gladly refuse to compensate you for any damages caused by fire and natural disasters such as hurricane and earthquake. This is because an insurance cover is valid as long as you are staying in the house that’s specified in the policy.  You must, therefore, inform your insurance agent that you are no longer living in your former home.

  1. Pack Your Stuff in Boxes

Carrying things that are already packed in boxes is easy. You should actually pack your things two days in advance to avoid leaving some of your valuables behind. And that’s not all. The boxes should be labeled including where they should be put in the new house. For instance, you can label a box containing plates and indicate that it should be put in the kitchen. This will ensure that stuff that is used in the bedroom is not put in the living room and vice versa.
