How I Ended Up Booking My Trip For The Wrong Month!

As a person that travels as much as I do, I give myself the credibility of being a travel expert. I’ve traveled all over the world for over 2 decades. I’m a travel deal queen. I know all the websites to find the best deals and thrive on finding them. I’ve been on hundreds of planes and I guess somewhere in between flying so much, things can go wrong. I’ve missed flights for the sake of love and adventure. I was on a plane that almost crashed once, I also had someone die on one of my flights and recently missed a flight for not waking up on time, but NEVER did I ever, book a flight for the wrong month, until recently!

Who books a flight for the WRONG MONTH!?

I’ve always been so detail oriented, but I guess it happens to the best of us, right?

The original plan was only to visit Copenhagen in Denmark, during New Years of 2016, what ended up happening was a whole other fun, sad and odd story, that turned out pretty well at the end.

I was living in Phili at the time, working long hours during the Christmas season on a side project. I was only really getting 3-4 hours of sleep on a daily base, working crazy hours.

Time was flying by so fast and the original plan before Copenhagen was going to Scotland’s famous Hogmanay New Year celebration with Contiki. I waited too long and the tour sold out, so I was looking at different alternatives. Somehow I came up with the idea of going to Copenhagen, after debating between Australia and a few other locations. However, since I waited til the last minute, tickets cost too much because I was booking everything less than 2 weeks in advance.

So I found an amazing deal for Copenhagen and said: “let’s do it!”. I booked a one-way ticket to Copenhagen and then looked up a different country that was close by that was cheap to fly into and found a flight from Copenhagen to Stockholm (Sweden) for only $57! I then found an even cheaper ticket to Heliski (Finland) for only $35 from Stockholm!

I was too excited and had to book the flights ASAP before the deal would be off. So I booked the flight from Los Angeles to Copenhagen, Copenhagen to Stockholm and somewhere in between my booking I stopped and asked myself, “why does it say Feb.4???”, mind you I was booking this ticket at 4am, after another crazy and long day at work.

Something wasn’t right. I looked back and noticed that I had booked ALL my flights for the WRONG MONTH! I kid you not, I think my heart had stopped! How could I do something so stupid!? This has never ever happened to me before, booking a flight for the wrong month?! Who does something so stupid like that, lol that would be me!

I quickly called all the airlines who told me that I could cancel it, but I won’t get my money back for 2 months! Which I believe was like $600. I figured it was pointless to cancel, maybe G*D has a special plan for me. After all, I do strongly believe that everything happens for a reason. I left my flights the way they were. I ended up booking a flight from Norway back to Los Angeles because it ended up being $200 cheaper than flying back from Finland and figured why not see another country while I’m already in Europe.

So that’s my crazy story on how I got to visit and finish off all the Scandinavian countries.

The trip ended up being amazing, although I would have honestly rather traveled to Europe for New Years when it’s not as cold as February.

This all happened on Skyscanner.com and I’ve actually noticed this almost happening to me a few other times. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with their search engine, but sometimes, it changes the month on you! However, it’s still my favorite site for airfare.
