Snowboarding Trip to Mountain High In A Blizzard (Video)

Spread the love

So I recently went on a snowboarding trip to Mountain High. Mountain High is just a short 1.5-2hrs drive from Los Angeles. It never ever snows in Los Angeles, so I was so shocked to see how much it actually snowed at Mountain High.

Growing up in Los Angeles, I’ve gone snowboarding a bunch of time. The more popular places to ski and snowboard in California are Big Bear and Mammoth. Big Bear is about 2.5hrs from LA and Mammoth is about 6-7hr drive, but ideally Mammoth has better snow because it’s also a lot colder up north.

My first time learning to snowboard was in Big Bear when I was 15. I fell in love with snowboarding instantly and used to go every season. A bunch of friends and I would rent a cabin in Big Bear for a long weekend and have the time of our lives. Then when I was 17 years old, I decided to go to Mountain High with a good friend of mine at the time. Everything went great until the moment I fell off the slope right before we were supposed to get off because they went too fast and fell right on my arm. I thought I broke my arm. I had paramedics take me down the mountain and ended up damaging my hand and arm pretty bad. I can’t move it for days. So we ended up leaving early.

Ever since that happened, I was literally scared of the slopes at any ski resort (still am) and especially at Mountain High, so I haven’t been back since.

For the last few weeks, I have been considering making my annual Christmas/New Years trip to Europe for some snow time and cold weather because I’m just obsessed with cold weather. But I had bad timing this Christmas season and had to cancel the plans I started making.

I kept telling everyone that I wanted to go snowboarding because I missed it so much. Then randomly or as I like to call it “God sent”, I received an email inviting me to media day at Mountain High. Although my fears for the slopes were high, I decided to face my fears and give it a go. I took my good friend Sivan, who I met while living in Baltimore. She had just moved to LA that same week we went and I thought it would be a good idea. So we went.

On the random day that we decided to go, it snowed more than it did in 18 years at Mountain High! Although I thought I was prepared, I clearly wasn’t. I hadn’t gone snowboarding in 4-5 years and I definitely wasn’t prepared for a crazy snow storm in Cali.

Turned out to be quite the interesting day.

Oddly enough, someone ran over Sivan’s hand with their snowboard and basically what happened to my hand/arm happened to her there in a different way. So once again, we had to leave early, but that’s ok because the snow was SO out of control. I am so grateful that she didn’t end up breaking her hand/arm as we thought she did because it was turning purple.

I still had a fun day!
