Zip Lining Through The Jungles Of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Earlier this year I gave my top 10 bucket list items of 2016, in my My 2016 Top 10 Bucket List Around The World And Maybe Yours… post. One of the many things I wanted to accomplish this year was zip lining through the jungles. Although I originally intended on that being in Costa Rica, I really felt like I can’t wait any longer and decided to give it a go while visiting Punta Cana earlier this year. Once I heard it’s the Caribbean’s longest zip line, I figured there was no way I’d pass up this opportunity.

Since the Dominican Republic is a tropical island, the weather is always changing dramatically, from rain to sun. On my part of the island where my hotel, Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa was located the sun was shining. However, the moment we drove a little over an hour into the jungles of the Dominican, the rain just wouldn’t stop. So during my fun adventure of zip lining I was also flying into the sky of rain, which was an adventure on its own. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed at first, but after about 2-3 zip lines, the sky had cleared up and it ended up being a happy day in paradise.

The Dominican Republic has a few different zip lining companies on the island. I did my zip line with Runners Adventures and I’m so happy I did. The staff was the best, super friendly and our tour guide was funny, sweet and very informative. He gave us some great information about the people of the Dominican Republic and the country through our drive. We also got to see how the locals live, which if you didn’t leave your luxury hotel, you would have never seen. I found out that most people when vacationing in countries like the Caribbean, usually stay in their resorts, which was a bit shocking to me. I can’t imagine visiting a country and only staying at my resort, I wouldn’t feel like I really traveled if I did that. As nice as resorts and luxury hotels are, I always think it’s important to step out and see how people actually live in different countries. It gives you a humbling and eye-opening perspective, so I’m happy I got to do that.

The zip-lining track I did had 12 zip lines that stretch over beautiful mountains and exotic trees. You can even hear animals while flying through the jungle, it’s amazing. You also have an opportunity to race with the person you went with on one of the tracks that have 2 zip lines lined up across from each other, which is super fun. Rumor has it that the right one is faster 😉 don’t say I tell anyone I told that.

Now let’s talk about fears and height.

I don’t think I’ve ever been afraid of heights, although once when I went bungee jumping at the age of 17 with a fake ID, I thought I was going to get a heart attack and wouldn’t jump until I was pushed off haha. Their motto was jump or be pushed off. While I can’t say that it’s the best way to go down, I’ll admit that I wouldn’t have gone down otherwise. However, generally speaking, I’m all for the adventure and was so excited about finally going zip lining that I really didn’t think much about the height.

I found out through traveling alone, that I’m far more of a risk taker when it comes to extreme attractions or excursions while being alone. I think that sometimes we feed off of others fears or opinions. When you’re traveling solo, you have no one to talk about your fears, but yourself. Since most of the people that are on excursions are likely there because they want to do it, I just feed off of their vibes and excitement.

This zip line was kids friendly as well. You’d be surprised as to how many kids were fearless compared to their parents, it was almost amusing. 😉

Also, side note, if you have a GoPro make sure to bring it. It would be extremely difficult to take photos while one hand is holding on to the zip line cord, but some of the helmets had a place to put your camera on. I was crazy enough to do it with a selfie stick but was told many people lose their cameras this way. Although it does make for better videos and photos, it’s very difficult than it looks. Sadly, I thought my battery was fully charged and when I got there I realized it wasn’t (sad face). So I only got footage from the first few lines.

Anyways, here’s my fun adventure of zip lining in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
